  • School Lunches

Published on Tuesday 10th January 2017

Our hot meal providers have introduced a new menu for the Spring Term.

As part of our Healthier Child Project Action Plan we now need to address packed lunches. In November, Paul Evans (healthy School Advisor) did an audit of our school lunches and found that some lunchboxes contained a high sugar content. Please see the attached packed lunch guidance for advice.

Drinks also need to comply to standards set out in the 'Schools Food Plan'. Fresh drinking water will be provided at all times in the lunch hall. The only drinks permitted are plain water (still or carbonated), fruit or vegetable juice (max 150ml), plain soya, rice or oat based drinks enriched with calcium, combinations of fruit or vegetable juice with plain water (still or carbonated), fruit or vegetable drinks must be at least 45% fruit or vegetable.

The government guidelines are to help reduce salt, saturated fat and sugar in children's diets. The School Food Standards are displayed in the school entrance area and in the hall.
